Concept development and design for 180 high-quality homes in 6 mound towers. Standing with feet in the wetlands, with phenomenal 360 degree views over the Dutch rivers and the old town of Dordrecht.

As a result of the disappearing port and shipbuilding activities of the Stadswerven area, an area is being created that is characterized by the vastness and the poetry of the former port activities. In addition, the geographical location is very characteristic of the location. It lies within the existing urban fabric and small distance from the city center with all its amenities. The project maintains the existing city center, and does not cannibalize. It is an area that has evolved into a well-functioning system. From this perspective, it was decided to transform the Stadswerven into an urban area that focuses solely on high-quality housing.

VIEW

Stadswerven is characterized by vastness. In these areas the presence of large open areas of water is very evident and can be identified as the high quality. The three river point where Beneden Merwede, Noord and Oude Maas come together is one of the most beautiful places in the Netherlands. But the combination with the view of the medieval city center and the proximity of the Hollandse Biesbosch make this place very special.

360 degrees provides the requested high density. And with the preservation of the available expanses. One hundred eighty dwellings have been developed in which three hundred and sixty degree views are the criteria for all dwellings. Within this view typology a great differentiation in form, type and price has been developed.

HIGH TIDE

The Netherlands will have to adapt its future building program to the rising water level. We can not afford to continue to deny this. The urban concept of 360 degrees is based on an ancient and excellent working principle. The six towers are placed on a mound. There is room for parking the cars as well as space for other facilities that belong to a tower typology. The six mounds are connected to each other by means of traditional Dutch dikes. These dikes are only meant to have 'dry feet' not to stop the water.

The yard park will be expanded with the total area of the Stadswerven. This area will transform into a wetland area in which the river can and may step outside its banks. The river is everywhere and the green of the Biesbosch penetrates the urban area. The concrete slipway and the crane track are relics that remind us of what ever happened in this area.
